Falafel
Ingredients:
1 Bag of Dry Fava Beans (the bag we use is 2 lbs.)
1 medium Yellow Onion
4 Garlic Cloves
1 Bunch of Cilantro
1 Bunch of Parsley
Salt as needed
1 teaspoon Baking Soda (at time of cooking)
Directions:
1. Soak the bag of Dry Fava Beans over night in water, the fava beans must be split in half (usually it comes this way)
2. For this recipe you need a fine grinder machine like this or a blender might work.
3. Grind together the fava beans, onion (split into 8 pieces), 4 garlic cloves, bunch of cilantro, and bunch of parsley. All will go into a bowl and will turn into a dough, make sure it's mixed well.
4. Add 1 Tablespoon of Falafel Seasoning (you can find it on the internet or in some stores)
5. Add salt according to your own taste (we usually don't put a lot of salt in our food.
6. You might find that you don't want to make the whole amount for your party's serving. Just take whatever amount you want and freeze the rest.
7. Very Important! If you are using half of the amount of Falafel dough then add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda before frying. Mix well!
Cooking:
1. Falafels have to be fried. So grab a cooking frying pan and add Canola or Vegetable Oil. Turn on high.
2. To make Falafels into their shape grab a falafel scooper (can you find it on the internet). OR make it into a small doughnut shape.
Important: to make the falafel crispy make sure there is a hole in the middle. This way the falafel wouldn't me doughy in the middle and you'll be happy ;)
3. Fry the Falafels when the oil is very hot, place int he frying pan. When one side turns brown flip to the other side. Take them out and place on a napkins on a plate so the oil drains out.
Toppings:
- You can eat it without bread or make it into a sandwich on a pita.
- slice some tomatoes, pickles, and Parsley mix.
Parsley mix is: a quarter bunch of parsley, 1 small white onion sliced, and sprinkle of sumac spice.
- Tartaour sauce: 3 tablespoons sesame tahini sauce, 1 garlic cloves (peel and cruch it), 1/2 teaspoon salt, 3 tablespoons lemon juice, 3 tablespoons water. Add some Parsley for garnish.
- want to spice it up, add some hot sauce with the Tartaour. Amazing!
Enjoy and Sahteen!
